Come along to Enfield Choral Society’s jazz singing workshop
This workshop is for anyone wishing to revive, strengthen or simply awaken their jazz singing voice, and gain more confidence to sing jazz with ease. It is suitable for all standards, both experienced and inexperienced singers – there’s always room for improvement.
With his many years of experience, Mark Sproson, Enfield Choral Society’s Musical Director will be leading this exciting workshop. Based on Will Todd’s Mass in Blue and a new piece composed by Mark himself.
Mark has been involved in choral music for most of his musical career, specialising in choral conducting. He has been Musical Director of Enfield Choral Society since 2004, and is a trustee of the Association of British Choral Directors. Founder of the renowned chamber choir HELIOS Voices, he has also directed many choirs and choral societies including, through Music in Offices, workplace choirs, reaching the final of the Office Choir of the year with the Telegraph Media Group last year.
Mark will be joined by Katie Teage, an Educator, Choir conductor, Composer, Arranger and Soprano with the London Vocal Project, led by the world famous educator Pete Churchill. She currently works as an associate for Musical Futures guiding teachers in the use of their resources and as a consultant for the Voices Foundation, at the FONACT school of acting as a vocal coach and choir leader and at St Gildas’ Primary School as a music specialist.
What will the workshop involve?
This one-day singing workshop will last about six hours with an hour’s break for lunch. There will be tea/coffee breaks and a “bring and share” lunch provided by members.
The workshop will begin with some physical and vocal exercises to prepare for singing. We start with a mix of gentle shaking and stretching of both voice and body. There will also be some vocal development. This will help you to sing without effort and extend your singing abilities.
Previous Enfield Choral Society workshops have received great feedback:
“It was great to have a whole day to focus on singing technique.” “Well worthwhile.”
“Really developed my awareness of the importance of breathing and enunciation”.
“Mark’s interesting background comments, setting the piece in context, developed my understanding and brought the piece to life.”
“Katie is brilliant! She is a hugely talented musician who leads choir rehearsals with an enthusiasm and passion that is quite remarkable. She brings out the voice of every singer by combining sensitivity, fun and laughter. Katie is versatile and adaptable to our needs whilst always ensuring the beauty of singing in a collective group shines through.” – Wendy Young (Woolwich Singers)
